Thing Two & Letter R

Some LOTW Rainbow fun and some Rainbow Robots from Homeschool Creations were in the drawers for this week. He enjoyed his activities – especially his Robots, he LOVES Robots! He even sleeps with a crochet one I made him.

IMG_0009 IMG_0010 Robot Shape Matching – I drew on the shapes for him because he isn’t ready for just the words yet. He loved it!

IMG_0011 IMG_0052 The color matching activity with LOTW was pretty creative! He enjoys matching his clouds…though I told him to put them on the half of the rainbow without a cloud – but he INSISTED that they didn’t go there, and so matched htem on top of the cloud that was already there, oh well. lol

IMG_0067 IMG_0068 He got tired of waiting for his brother to roll a 3 to add the last cloud to our Roll-a-Rainbow form LOTW. He decided to add it himself (much to the dismay of Thing One).

IMG_0032 IMG_0034 THIS is my BRAG moment for the week. He matched ALL his UC/LC letter (not laid out in order either!) BY HIMSELF. I was super proud and surprised. He is so good with so much of the “preK” level stuff, he might be a bit ahead of Thing One in the long run. He is certainly ahead of him as compared to Thing One’s abilities at 28 months! We’ll see how it goes. He thinks he’s just having fun – HA! Joke’s on him. :-)

IMG_0058 He also loved matching up our Shamrocks from our “5 Little Shamrocks” poem I made up for the St. Patrick’s Day Number Fun Pack. You can check out the activities in action HERE and download the pack for free HERE.

R is for Rainbow (w27)

In addition to out St. Patty’s Day fun we did the LOTW: R is for Rainbow by COAH. It is kinda sad – this is our second to last letter in the program. *tear* Thing One (and Two too!) have really loved going through the ABCs with such great themes and amazing printables.

We also used the fantastic Robots Printable Pack from Homeschool Creations (love her stuff too!). It couldn’t have fit better with rainbow – the Robots were rainbow colors and the pack focuses a lot on colors and color words. Perfect!

IMG_0008 IMG_0018 Tracing from LOTW and First Letter Sounds clip cards form the Robot Pack. (don’t look too closely, the letters on the clothes pins don’t match what they clipped because we were just clipping, not matching the letters!)

IMG_0045 IMG_0048 IMG_0025 IMG_0059 IMG_0066 LOTW has lots more rainbow activities which I gave to Thing Two this week. So be sure to check out Thing Two’s Tot School post for Letter R to see the awesome color and letter matching games.

IMG_0019 IMG_0021 The boys had fun doing Robot magnets pages and acting like robots too. We spent the better part of a day all talking in robot-speak. It was a really clever way to get them to do things that usually result in whining….like take a nap. I guess naps are more fun when “Mama Robot” tells you to go to sleep. hehehe

IMG_0056 IMG_0057 The ever-loved and asked for ROLL & GRAPH! If you don’t know what these are…you should! Simple game, but oh so fun – especially when you get to “throw” in the house. We have big soft dice, so this is one time it’s okay (though sometimes they do get a bit carried away, but what do I expect when I say they can throw the di? lol) In case you’re interested, the Purple Robot “won.” :-)

IMG_0049 IMG_0064 There was also the much-loved LOTW dot paint pages. And then Thing One had a small and Robotic introduction to fractions. I had not idea what I was doing “explaining” fractions to him….hopefully I didn’t mess him up for later, lol. But he had fun matching them and me telling him how to say each fraction. I guess just the small exposure is a good start!

that was some of our R fun this week. We also did a few fun things in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day too.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun

Here’s most of the St. Patrick’s Day Number Fun Pack in action. I have to say, it was a hit with my boys and I love doing things that make them laugh and smile.

IMG_0006 IMG_0007

The little rhyme I made up was lots of fun. It got in counting, patterns, and rhyming words all in one shot! Thing Two really loved the little shamrocks I colored to go with it. He could match them up by colors and then count them. He was upset that one of them had no “friends” as he calls it…it was the fifth shamrock of the poem, and I only made one in that color. lol

Thing One worked on his number words – this is not his favorite task. But I was proud he did rather well listening for the beginning and ending sounds to figure out the most of the he didn’t know by sight. They both loved the Count by Tens Walk. Thing One now counts by tens backwards and forwards without the walk. I think I am going to make some other “spring” shape and add in the 5’s with the shamrock 10’s to continue the learning.

Happy Hats! This was –the- game of the week. They loved stacking hats on the Happy Shamrock and making them “wiggly.” Definitely filing this idea away for other themes and concepts.

(yes, there is a pile of play tools under the table, er, I mean the “bus.” Apparently it was broken down and needed to be fixed…all this while I tried to eat my breakfast. The hammering and drilling noises were a great start to my day.)

IMG_0069 IMG_0070

Lots of coloring, cutting, and painting to make our Rainbow Mobiles! I darkened the lines around Thing One’s template so he had a thicker line to follow.

We also made a fast rainbow with construction paper and a stapler. I learned Thing One loves using the stapler. To the point of stapling nothing and just wasting my staples to see them come out, lol.

That was our St. Patrick’s fun this week (so far). I have some more fun planned for tomorrow – a rainbow treasure hunt and eating some green foods (that aren’t usually green!). This leprechaun will be busy tonight. hehe :-)

You can get my St. P’s Number Fun Pack HERE and a few other fun [free!] printables too. I’d love for you to post any pictures to the Ironic Adventures Facebook, leave me a comment and let me know how it went.
