Letter P is for P-P-PUMPKIN!

After carving our pumpkins and learning the parts of a pumpkin, we
took off on our Letter Pp week, which of course, had to be pumpkins!
And, now that I think about it, I haven’t really seen any other Letter P
activities out there for another P word…at least not as a “unit” of
activities centered on one word, I did see coloring and worksheets that
had lots of different P words on them. But no full units or tot books.
Hm, maybe I should fix that…an endeavor to try my hand at in the
future!

Our Pumpkin activities this week came from 2 wonderful resources:
Confession of a Homeschooler’s LOTW Letter P
– Her page has all the activities shown, I don’t always use everything,
but I wanted you to see the stuff I don’t show, because it is all
great! (captions below labeled with “LOTW” are from this site.)
2 Teaching Mommies Pumpkins PreK Unit (captions below labeled with “2TM” are from this site)
2 Teaching Mommies Fall Tot Book and a few Halloween Activities, also from 2TM, and I linked these in the actual captions.

Pp UC/LC Sorting – this was a tricky letter! One we need more wok on. (LOTW)

Size Sorting Pumpkins into piles of small, medium and large (LOTW)

Counting
Pumpkins (LOTW), I added 11-20 on the BACKS of the 1-10 number cards
provided before I laminated them because Thing One is ready for more of a
challenge.

(2TM) Roll and
Graph – Thing One’s absolute FAVORITE of all the activities we’ve done
thus far in our homeschooling adventure – because I let him THROW the
dice and run to see what came up. :-)

Marking our graph to “see who is going to win!” (2TM)

(2TM) Pumpkin Number Order Puzzles

(LOTW) Pumpkin
Puzzle – I REALLY like that this one didn’t have the cutting lines
drawn for me, that way I can cut more pieces and make them something
other than squares.

Do-a-Dotting (Pp is LOTW & bat is from 2TM Halloween Pack, see next picture for link)

This was
obviously for another type of activity, but we just used it as a
do-a-dot page. I also printed the color version and we used it as a
magnet page. Find the 2 Teaching Mommies Halloween Pack HERE.

Who knew you could practice color match by putting away markers!

LOTW Pre-Writing/Tracing

LOTW spelling
or UC/LC practice. I put the letter disks on Milk Caps, they are a
little too big for the worksheets, but that doesn’t bother anyone.
(2TM) Fall Tot Book – Size Sequencing

(2TM) Fall Tot Book – Leave Shapes

(2TM) Fall Tot Book – Fall Puzzle (it’s tricky!)

(2TM) Fall Tot Book – Leaf Match/Memory Game

LOTW – cut
& paste. Thing One cut his own this time! He needed help, but I
didn’t do it for him completely. Thing Two’s was pre-cut out
“perfectionist style” before hand – he is NOT ready for scissor power
yet (live and learn…lol).

P words

LOTW Pumpkin
Counting Cards. He added the correct number of glass counters ot each
card 1-10 and then wanted ot do it all AGAIN. Wow.
This is what Thing Two does when his Big Brother is counting…

2TM – UC/LC matching of the whole alphabet.

These are in the Halloween Pack HERE

I really HATE using markers, they are so messy – even worse than paint…at least somehow the are for my boys.

LOWT trace & color P is for Pumpkin
I LOVE DOLLAR
TREE! Got these puff balls, the storage container (7 of them to be
exact) and these super cute ice cream blows/spoons. I thought they would
make fun activities for Thing Two – SCORE!

More Dollar
Tree Love – 50 foam cubes! They are about 1 inch and will make great
counters, building blocks, and who knows what else!

2TM Pumpkin Seed Counting. We used our ACTUAL seeds form carving for this. They do include paper seeds in the file though.

Halloween Shape Matching from 2TM
– I REALLY liked this because the pieces were NOT color coded like the
LOTW activities. I like knowing they are matching the SHAPE (or the
number) NOT just the colors. The shapes were different colors, but each
color was used for more than one shape. I know this works better because
it takes them longer to complete (when I give them a LOTW shape match
it is always also color matching at the same time so they breeze through
it.)

A close up of the shape matching. Super cute clip arts in this pack!

Number Order Puzzles – 2TM

C0wboy 1-10

Butterfly 11-20

Playing with our Leaf Matching from the Fall Tot Book again. They love Memory Games.

Had some fun
decorating for fall with some window clings I found at the Dollar Tree a
while ago (maybe in the summer? it was off-season) and saved.

Another week of school goes down in the
books! Not all the activities we did are pictured here, but this gives
you an idea of what we do during the week. Not every day is happy as the
pictures either, who takes a picture of a screaming 2 year old (or 4
year old!)? lol Maybe I should for proof it is not all fun…next week! :-)

Pumpkin Carving & Learning

Tonight we had a little fun learning the parts of a pumpkin. We carved our pumpkins and learned what the different parts were called. Then it was straight to the tub for two sticky boys. Then, as our bed time story we read the Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs. We talked about our pumpkins and the farmer in the story and how Jesus cleans us and puts a light in us – just like we did with our pumpkin!

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Thing 2 decided to eat the raw pumpkin…

He took more than one bite too…guess it was good enough to eat!

One of the finished masterpieces! We lit it up in the boys’ room after we finished talking about the story.

Farm & Pumpkin Patch Fun

The boys had lots of fun up at Greenbluff this past weekend! We got our pumpkins, rode ponies, and picked apples!

A pumpkin with a big rotten hole is WAT cooler than a nice, clean, pretty one…apparently.

“Yeeeeeehaaaaaw!”

“high up!”

DELICIOUS!
