Living in an apartment and homeschooling can be a challenge. Our apartment is very open so it is hard to “contain” school to just one space. It began in the dinning area and has ventured out around our entire downstairs living space over the last year.
Recently, I had a customer come to pick up a hat order. She wanted a custom hat to match her daughters winter coat for this year, so I invited her into my home, to look at yarn colors (my shameless plug: becsfiberfetish.com). After she came in, I was suddenly shy over the schoolroom in my living room.
Now, I am not ashamed of the fact that we have chosen to homeschool, but it IS kinda surprising for people who don’t know us to walk into our home and a classroom all at the same time! Most people are just fine with the mesh of school posters and “grown-up” decorations. It is certainly unique around here!
Our apartment is very oblong shaped. So, with a little creativity and several shelves, we were able to make a little space for me to work and store the bulk of our supplies. The boys call it “Mommy’s Area.”
You can kind of see more how the place is shaped in this photo. Lots of shelving! lol But, it helps to separate the room a bit.
I am working on our room now. Trying to figure out just the right places for all we will be exploring this year. I am thankful to have the opportunity to teach my boys at home. It has been such a blessing thus far. I am about as excited as my Kindergartener for September 3rd!
I’m joining in with tons of other families who are sharing their schoolrooms this week on the iHomeschool Blog Hop.

You do have lots of shelving–that’s great! It looks like you’re making the most out of the spaces you have. Have a great year!
I think it looks great! You are very organized. Have a great year.
