Who needs a matchy-matchy theme? I did, but it isn’t working this year, so I gave up. This is why we have the Letter O and Forest Animals together! No one notices this but me (and you), and if the boys don’t mind that it isn’t all themed together, then I shouldn’t either!
Thing Two LOVES animals. He has a blast this week with our Forest Animal activities from the book All About Animals Around the World.
There is a story and story board pieces for each unit. We read the Forest Animals book each day and soon Thing Two was retelling the story on our felt story board!
(Easy Homemade Felt Board Instructions: Cut a piece of felt the size of the back of your white board (or a study piece of cardboard would work too, our white board just happens to be small and portable) and hot glue the felt onto the board! We use the hook side of Velcro dots to make our laminated story pieces stick to the felt. We have a ton of unmatched hook side Velcro dots due to our calendar system – so glad I found a way to start using them up!)
4-piece puzzles of some forest animals we read about in our book. He loved these (he loves puzzles).
He also sponged painted a tree! This was the cutest art project – and he really enjoyed the sponge painting…too much…you can see his tree is all over the place. I just cut up an unused kitchen sponge. Easy – I will have to work more sponges into our art days!
Thing Two also enjoyed some LOTW activities from COAH. This week we did the letter U, it was the last of our vowels. I wanted to work on vowels first this time through LOTW so we could work on their sounds, and then begin trying to build words. Next we’re venturing into the consonants in no particular order.
And apparently I didn’t take pictures if his Letter U activities, beside these shape umbrellas! This blogging stuff is hard work, to much to remember to take pictures of…lol.
Working on his “munching” skills. Big Brother (Thing One) is so good with his cutting now, and of course cutting is all Thing Two wants to do….into.tiny.little.pieces.all.over.the.floor!
Having fun with dinosaurs!
Counting chicks for our Number Poem this week: “5 Little Chicks.” He had lots of fun with this poem!

Thanks for the felt board tips. I’ve had it on my to-do list forever but didn’t actually want to cut all of the characters from felt. Using Velcro is genius!
This looks like a blast! Sometimes, I think we plan things for ourselves as much as the kids!
Thanks so much for sharing at Teach Me Tuesday–I hope we see you again!
